So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) is a widely popular and multi Emmy-winning American reality dance television program. Each season, dancers from all around the country audition to gain a spot in the Top 20, ultimately having the chance to be crowned “America’s Favorite Dancer.” In June 2008, SYTYCD season 4 producers approached Nakul Dev Mahajan about bringing Bollywood Dance to the show, as the show features a broad variety of American and international dance styles including Ballet, Contemporary, Ballroom, Hip-hop, Broadway and Jazz.

A few weeks later, Nakul not only choreographed the first Bollywood Dance routine to air on So You Think You Can Dance, but also on American Primetime Television. The Katee Shean and Joshua Allen ‘Dhoom Taana’ Bollywood routine spent a whole week atop YouTube’s “Most Viewed list” and Nakul became an overnight success in the dance community. Since its debut, Bollywood has been a favorite on SYTYCD and Nakul has been invited back every season to date – 10 seasons to be exact!

Nakul and his team of assistants over the years (Mala Tejwani, Varun Gurunath, Alyssa Shroff, Amna Mazin, Monica Moskatow, Khushy Niazi), continue to inspire Bollywood dancers all around the world through the groundbreaking work of SYTYCD, which airs in over 30 different countries, including India.
