Bollywood TV: Bollywood returns to So You Think You Can Dance

Bollywood enthusiasts should take note of the name Nakul Dev Mahajan. Mahajan was first introduced to fans of the Fox reality show So You Think You Can Dance two weeks ago--here's our earlier post--when he choreographed Katee Shean and Joshua Allen's routine to the hit Dhoom Tana.

The producers evidently liked what they saw because Mahajan returned to SYTYCD last week when he choreographed the group performance for the top ten contestants. As a longtime viewer of the show, I think the reason the Katee/Joshua routine worked was because they both embraced the dance and because of the unexpected twists: dancing with the scarf, the knee spins, and the unexpected ending. The group routine seemed much more, well, routine. The steps were simpler and because the stage was so crowded the performers were unable to show much personality. Overall, the performance seemed less polished.

But, in the words of the Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker blog, "for the first time in one of these group numbers, the dancers look like they're having a blast." Watch it now.
